Week-long Outdoor Adventures in Learning

All Grown Up Ages 4-5
  June 22-26       1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
From tadpole to frog and seed to tree, we will explore and observe the different ways living things grow. We will travel to ponds and through forests in search of plants and animals in all life stages!

Wild Things  

Age 4 only

These adventures will introduce your child to the natural world and its wonders. Through a variety of both indoor and outdoor activities we will explore, discover, and learn together!

Nature Sense

Age 5 only

Explore New Hampshire’s summer environment with a focus on each of the five senses. Smell, taste, touch, see, and hear your way through a week full of fun!

Wild Art 

Ages 7-10

Explore the exciting territory where art and science overlap! Participants will discover the rich variety of plant and animal life at the Science Center under the guidance of a Currier Art Center instructor plus Science Center staff. Create in two dimensions using watercolor and tempera paint and in three-dimensional media such as wire, clay, papier-mâché, and plaster.

 Buggin

Ages 5-6

Do you like webs, wings, and crawly things? Explore the nooks and crannies of the outdoors while we collect and examine examples from the tiny world of bugs. Bug games, stories, and projects will fill your Buggin’ week!

BioBattle

 Ages 7-9

   July 6-10    1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
Learn about relationships among organisms – they are not always simple and harmonious, and at times are knock down, drag-out battles for supremacy. Whether it involves succession and competition among plants or predator and prey, the natural world is a wild place. Join us to take a peek at the BioBattle!

Be A Survivor FULL*

 Ages 10-13

   July 6-10    9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Would you be able to survive if you were lost in the woods? Gaining a deeper understanding of wilderness is a key to survival! Learn how to be prepared, build survival shelters, and navigate the forest. Master the ancient arts of fire building, silent movement, and animal tracking. With these skills, you’ll feel at home in the forest!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

 Ages 6-8

Through adventures in the Science Center gardens and at nearby Longhaul Farm, learn all the good things to know to make your garden grow! Each child will create a miniature garden to take home at week’s end.

Skin and Scales, Feathers and Fur FULL*

 Ages 7-9

From fish to turtles to owls to skunks, New Hampshire is filled with amazing wildlife.  Discover what makes these animals the same and what makes them different!

Science Sleuths

 Ages 8-10

Every day is a marvelous mystery when you are a scientist! Come solve a daily science mystery as we unravel the puzzles of nature.

Critter Theatre 

Ages 6-7 Session I and III; Ages 8-10 Session II

Join us for a week of fun with a theatrical twist! Participants will meet live animals up-close, and then take to the Little Church Theater stage to create a “natural world” play from what they learn! The course will be held jointly at the Science Center and the Little Church Theater. Bring the family to see the environmental theater performance on Friday.

Round and Round

Ages 6-8

From life cycles to seasons, the world goes round and round. Explore these natural cycles through stories, outdoor explorations, games, and activities.

GeoCamp 

Ages 9-12  

  July 20-24 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
The Lakes Region has not always had lakes! Learn how our lakes and mountains were created by volcanoes, glaciers, and time. We’ll travel to a mine, cruise Squam Lake to see its geology, and even climb an extinct volcano! Lots of fun, hands-on activities – we’ll make fossils, play-dough volcanoes, topographic maps, and even ice cream magma!

Sky Hunters

 Ages 7-8

   July 27-31      1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
Explore the world of flying predators through stories, nature viewing, and visits with live owls, hawks, and falcons. Learn about raptor adaptations and the natural communities where raptors live. Meet some other airborne predators too.
Cost: $110/member; $130/non-member

big Bigger BIGGEST

Ages 6-7

Who is large and in charge in wild New Hampshire? Do you ever wonder what it is like to be the tallest or the strongest? Join us to discover how nature’s giants survive in natural communities and what challenges they face.

Natural Adventures-Single Day Series
Discover Your World
Ages 3 and under
Wednesdays: June 3, July 1, August 6, September 2
9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
It's important to introduce children to the world around them as soon as possible. You can foster your child's own "natural curiosity" and sense of wonder as we visit a different natural community each month. These special times spent with your child will build a foundation for a lifetime of enjoyment and appreciation of the natural world. Adult MUST accompany child at no additional cost.
Cost: $5/member child; $7/non-member child

Cancellations…Ours and Yours!

If you cancel at least two weeks prior to the start of the program, your payment will be refunded minus a $20 handling fee. If you cancel within one week of the start of the program, your payment will not be refunded.

If there is low enrollment, SLNSC will cancel week-long programs the Wednesday prior to the scheduled start. SLNSC will make every effort to alert participants to this possibility one month in advance.
